Heidi Moon talks with Dr. Martia Martin from Get Screened Oakland to talk about AIDS/HIV awareness week.



Michael Kaplan talks with Lisa Nichols, the Operations Manager from the Foundation of Family Values. We talked about their upcoming parenting education event on Gaming and Internet Compulsions/Addictions. The event is on December 1st in Campbell, just in time fot the holiday shopping season.

The Foundation of Family Values seeks to enhance the core values of modern families through creating innovative programs in combination with providing resources that facilitate the intellectual development of parenting ethics and responsibilities in the best interest of children.

FOFV accomplishes its mission through a variety of educational, therapeutic, and recreational programs and services designed to provide a menu of positive options for families who wish to participate in a holistic approach to family well-being.





Heidi Moon talks with Larry Myers, the Executive Secretary of the California Native American Heritage Commission. He was able to shed light on some issues that California Native Americans are dealing with today, including burial grounds and what to do with Indian remains. "Native Americans play incredibly important roles in our state's culture and success. Their customs and languages are invaluable parts of our state's history, which is why I am honored to observe Native American Heritage Month," said Governor Schwarzenegger. "I am confident the individuals appointed today will continue to preserve this wonderful heritage for generations to come."




Michael Kaplan talks with David Lewis the Executive Director of Save the Bay. He cleared up some questions regarding this week's oil spill in the SF Bay. Save The Bay is the oldest and largest membership organization working exclusively to protect, restore and celebrate San Francisco Bay. As its leading champion, Save The Bay is committed to making the Bay cleaner and healthier and connecting residents to it.



Heidi Moon talks with Carol Gillespie of the Asian American Donor Program. They register Asian AMericans to be on the blood and bone marrow donor lists.



Michael Kaplan talks with Crystal Lynch, Vice President of Marketing and Special events for Junior Achievement Bay Area. They have been working with young students across the country since 1919 and in the Bay Area since the 1950s. Junior Achievement is the region's largest and fastest-growing organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics, and free enterprise.




Heidi Moon talks with Kevin Danaher with Global Exchange. They are holding the San Francisco Green Festival Nov. 9th-11th. Global Exchange works to ensure their members and constituents are empowered locally and connected globally to create a just and sustainable world.




John Scott talks with Michael Hannigan from Give Something Back. They are an office supply company that donates all of their profits to community non-profit organizations.




Michael Kaplan talks with Kathy Lowry from Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco. They are the only comprehensive youth service shelter in San Francisco.



John Scott talks with Brian Scott from Lights Out SF. Their big energy saving awareness event is Oct. 20 from 8-9pm. On this night, we invite the entire city of San Francisco to turn off all non-essential lighting for one hour. To promote long-lasting energy saving, we plan to distribute free compact fluorescent light bulbs throughout the city.




Michael Kaplan talks with Marta Lindsey from the Transportation and Land Use Coalition. They will be celebrating their 10th anniversary on Thursday 10/18, from 6-9pm at the Oakland Museum of California.





Michael Kaplan talks with Margaret Jerene, the Executive Director of Florence Crittenton Services. They have been providing services to poorer San Francisco communities since 1889. Their annual fall luncheon is October 17th.


Michael Kaplan talks with Jim Pitofsky of Hands On Bay Area. They pair volunteers with projects all over the bay area. On Saturday, October 13th they are having their annual Hands On Bay Area Day with projects at 15 locations all over the bay area.

John Scott talks with Dr. Morelli from St. Mary's Hospital regarding Peripheral Artery Disease. One of his patients, Robert Carter joined us as well. Peripheral Artery Disease, or P.A.D., is a serious condition that more than doubles your risk of heart attack or stroke. 8 million people have P.A.D. People with diabetes and smokers are more likely to develop it. However, because many people have no symptoms at all, only your doctor can diagnose P.A.D.




Michael Kaplan talks with Donna Ramirez from Let the Children Play, a music festival down in San Jose on September 29th. The purpose of bringing this event to San Jose is far greater than simply having a day of music and fun in the sun. Let the Children Play Music Festival is a benefit concert for two amazing organizations that focus on supporting children all over the world.




John Scott talks with Sagnicthe Salazar from Youth Together, an Oakland-based non-profit. Grounded in our commitment to unity, peace and justice, Youth Together addresses the root causes of educational inequities by developing multiracial youth organizers and engaging school community allies to promote positive school change.



Michael Kaplan talks with Trip Van Noppen, the VP of Litigation for Earthjustice. They are currently suing the EPA to force them to enforce strict emission standards on ocean-going ships. When government agencies or private interests violate (or, in the case of the government, fail to enforce) environmental laws, Earthjustice attorneys, representing citizen groups, scientists, and others, go to court to see that the laws are obeyed and enforced.



John Scott talks with Francie Genz from Upwardly Global. Upwardly Global is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco that brings highly qualified immigrants and highly progressive employers together. The jobseekers we help are already permanent residents of the U.S. and work-authorized. Upwardly Global helps them write résumés, sharpen interviewing skills and develop professional networks, and also helps businesses put the right people in the right jobs and show them how to reap the benefits of diversity.




John Scott talks with Meredith Fenton, Program Director of Colage. COLAGE engages, connects, and empowers people to make the world a better place for children of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender parents and families.




Michael Kaplan talks with Linda Sibatello-Joy, President of Breathe California. As the local lung health leader, Breathe California of the Bay Area fights lung disease in all its forms and works with its communities to promote lung health. Since 1911, our local non-profit agency has carried out this mission through a host of critical programs and services. Starting as the Tuberculosis Society and working under three other names, including most recently (1970-2005) the American Lung Association of Santa Clara-San Benito Counties, our dedication has always been to work in partnership with local communities to improve the quality of life enjoyed throughout the valley.





Michael Kaplan talks with Lynda Steele, Executive Director of C.A.R., a not-for-profit organization for children and adults with developmental disabilities who live in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. Each year, their nine services are used by over 2,500 people and their families.

The Red Cross has been there, and will continue to be there—first, best and always—for disaster victims in need of food, clothing and shelter.





Michael Kaplan talks with Becky Cooper, Executive Director for Friends For Youth. Studies have consistently shown that youth in our program stay in school, improve their school performance, are more motivated, and rarely have future involvement with the Juvenile Justice System.

Michael Kaplan talks with Dr. Rick MacPherson, Program Director of The Coral Reef Alliance. They are a San Francisco based group that is working to educate the public about the threats facing coral reefs throughout the world. They have a number of ongoing projects to save the coral reefs.




John Scott talks with Deborah Cullinan with Intersection for the Arts, a San Francisco based artist workshop. Intersection provides a place where provocative ideas, diverse art forms, artists, and audiences can intersect one another.






Michael Kaplan talks with Mike Dugan from Healing Waters. They provide life therapy for men, women, and children with HIV and AIDS through ocean kayaking and white water rafting trips.




John Scott talks with Amy Taub from Creativity Explored. They work with developmentally disabled adults producing art. They display the art in a series of innovative shows.




Michael Kaplan talks with Suzanne Gavin from Friends of the Urban Forest. They help coordinate neighborhood tree plantings throughout San Francisco. They also offer a number of educational programs about the importance and care of the Urban Forest.




Michael Kaplan talks with John Anderson, the President and CEO of Bay Area Rescue Mission. They provide shelter, meals, skills programs, and transitional services to the Bay Area's homeless community.




Michael Kaplan talks with Dot Mains, Camp Director for Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. They are a year round residential camp for children with cancer and their siblings. They are currently looking for volunteers for this year's summer camps.


Michael Kaplan talks with Bob Ibach, the spokesperson from the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation. They work with sick children to grant them a wish from co-piloting a plane to meeting their sports heroes.
